One Founder, One Code File, $105K a Month: Can You Copy This AI Photo Site?
One founder, one PHP file with 40,000+ lines. In March 2026, Photo AI made $105,000 in a month with $80,000 profit, according to the founder. We checked the books.
The numbers are broadly credible, but what you can copy is the technology, not the business. Training a custom model costs $2; distribution decides revenue. Photo AI's real product is Pieter Levels himself.

Key numbers
| March 2026 revenue / profit | $105K / $80K Self-reported | levels.io, founder-reported, cash-in basis |
|---|---|---|
| End of September 2026 | ≈ $86K/month Third-party | IdeaWave scrape of self-reported data |
| Versus March | ≈ −18% (bases may differ; read the direction) Our estimate | (86−105)÷105 |
| The viral "$420K/month" | All his sites combined, for one day Self-reported | levels.io |
| Server cost | ≤ $244/month, all sites Self-reported | levels.io |
| Training one face model | $2 per run Verified | fal official pricing |
| Rival Photo AI Studio | < $4,000 in the last 30 days Verified | TrustMRR, payment-account verified |
| Compute for a heavy annual user | ≈ $49/month, close to what they pay Our estimate | From fal pricing |
Every number carries an evidence label: Verified = payment account, filing or official price page; Self-reported = the company's own claim; Third-party = media or data platforms; Our estimate = calculated from stated assumptions.
What it is
Upload a few selfies; Photo AI trains a model on your face and generates the photos you want: headshots, travel shots, and now video.
Label: an AI tool sold to consumers on subscription, acquiring customers mainly through the founder's own audience, with costs that rise with usage.
How it took off
Manual first: the first few hundred orders were trained by hand and emailed from his personal inbox — Paul Graham's "do things that don't scale".
Ruthless costs: 4B+ requests a year across all his sites on $244/month of servers.
Building in public: ten days after his Lex Fridman episode in August 2024, Photo AI passed $100K/month.
Check from the other side: rivals HeadshotPro and Aragon get most traffic from search; another search-driven lookalike makes under 1/20 of Photo AI's revenue. Copy the product and you don't get the business.
Why it's slipping
Free substitutes: ChatGPT image generation opened to free users in late March 2025 and was upgraded in September 2026.
No technical moat: a $2 training run is open to anyone.
Hype fades: China's Miaoya camera peaked on day nine; nine days later it was at 1/20 of peak.
Ceiling and exit
Our model, one year out from $86K: optimistic ≈ $97K, base ≈ $60K, pessimistic ≈ $41K per month.
At the 2026 median asking multiple of about 2× revenue, it might list around $2M; with falling revenue, a real sale would be lower. Against Helmer's 7 Powers, it touches only one — a cornered resource, the founder's audience, which a buyer can't buy.
Is it right for you?
Suits people with a large existing audience who code and build in public every day.
Doesn't suit people with technology but no audience. Copying it as-is: not recommended.
A better play
Companies pay for consistent staff headshots: HeadshotPro's team plans list at about $20–$25 per person; Aragon says it runs on 15 people and $10M+ a year.
Turn it into a B2B service: consistent-style headshots for an entire company, AI generates, people review and own consent. Distribution comes from HR and brand contacts, not followers.
Start with a data agreement, not a quote: photos used once, deleted after delivery.

Three questions to ask about businesses like this
- Who reported the revenue: payment account, founder, or third party?
- Take away the founder — how much business is left?
- When a big platform ships it free, why would users still pay?
FAQ
Does Photo AI really make $100K a month?
The March 2026 figures — $105K revenue, $80K profit — are self-reported by Pieter Levels and not payment-verified. A third-party scrape shows about $86K/month at the end of September. The viral $420K/month was all his sites combined, for a single day.
Can you copy Photo AI?
The technology, yes; the business, hardly. Training a face model costs $2, but Photo AI's distribution is the founder's audience. A search-driven lookalike makes under $4,000 a month, verified.
Where is the opportunity in AI headshots now?
In B2B: consistent headshots for whole companies, AI-generated and human-reviewed, starting with a data agreement. It's a trust-and-delivery service business.
